On my way home that night there was a road-block, and I put my seatbelt on while I was waiting in line. As soon as I was close enough, I saw there were six police cars. It must be something serious, I told myself, it looks like there are a dozen officers as well. When I was as close as the third car behind, I saw two officers dragging out of his vehicle a man whom they were mistreating. At First I thought they had their man, now they will let everybody else go. Not so, and I found that out when my turn came.

"Do you carry any guns in your car?"

"No."

"Do you have any bible?"

"My bible, I carry it in my heart."

"Very funny. This means , I'll have to get your heart out of you to get the book."

I look on the pavement and when I saw the man bleeding to death without care, I knew he was serious.

"What a man like you is going to do with a bible anyway?"

"We have to destroy them all. The law was passed at six o'clock today, and it took effect immediately."

"What is the penalty?"

"Are you a lawyer or what? I'm the one who asks questions around here. Get out of the car and stand over there. I need your papers. Any criminal record?"

"No."

"James Prince, just a mailbox address? A good man, huh? Where can I find you for questioning?"

"Here now."

"How come I can't find you?"

"I live in the bush ten miles off the highway."

"No home and no street address, that's very unusual?"

"I'm a kind of hippie."

"You don't think you're too old for that?"

"No."

"Where is the bush you're talking about?"

"It's hard to explain, It's called the virgin forest."

"Why?"

"I was the first one to get it."

"I never heard of it."

"That is exactly why I like it."

"I'm going to lock you up. You're giving me too many suspicions. No street address, a bible heart, a virgin forest. You're a hippie who's car is falling apart."

I looked up behind and I could tell that the line-up was miles long. I looked at the bleeding man and I asked the officer why he doesn't do anything to help this man out.

"He had a gun without a permit and he carried a bible also."

My brain registered at a lighting speed. I knew right then, that my new career had already started a few minutes ago. I had thought for sure, that I would have time to teach my children a little bit more before that happens.

"Get in there."

"I got kids at home."

"Sure, and I have three wives."

"Is that legal?"

I walked toward his car and when he put his hand behind my neck, that was it for him. I was lucky that we were a bit distanced from the others. He laid in the ditch with a broken leg, a broken arm and a broken jaw. I threw his gun as far as I could in the field. It was completely dark by that time. His car was still running and of course you and I are paying for that with our taxes. I got in his car and I backed it up to all of the other police's cars that were there. All the other officers seemed to be confused and watched as if this was a car show or something. They might have thought it was the other officer who was doing this.

Once all the other cars were out of driving condition having the front fenders smashed down to the front wheel blowing off their tires. I drove away towards the line-up. At about a quarter of a mile away, I stopped, got out of the car and warned other people about what happened.

"Those officers have committed murder, and you wait another twenty minutes, the highway should be clear by then. Wait for the signal, the lights will be blinking four times when it's safe."

One car was coming at a very high speed and I hid behind another car hoping no one would give me away. The car I drove almost got rear-ended having no tail-lights anymore. I wondered if they could have given me a ticket for that. The two cops got out with guns in hands. I thought hearing guns were illegal. Lucky for me, they took different directions from one another. One was questioning passengers from a car and the other was scrutinising the ditch. He is the one I got first. Another broken arm and leg. I saved his jaw, because, I needed him to call for the other one. The other one came running right were I wanted him to, and up went his gun and down he went with the other one in the same condition. I ran back to the murder scene to find a bunch of confused cops. A couple of them were calling for reinforcement.

I walked the field and studied the situation knowing that, what is to be done has to be done fast, because, if more of those come before I'm done, it will be my end. I could see three bodies lying on the pavement then. These must be the owner and passenger of the car they took to come at me with. When I was close enough I made some kind of animal noises to attract one who might be courageous enough on his own to come my way. One did alright, but, when I saw him pulling a flashlight out of his pocket, I didn't waste a second getting out of the way.

I'll have to try again, but this time, I'll have to come and get them, there is not two ways about it. Most of them were hiding behind their cars looking for the other two to come back, I supposed. These guys are bad news. They have killing instinct and they will kill anyone who stands in their way. Besides, they have the law on their side to do it. One thing I still don't understand is the fact they were hiding. They must have known they were in the wrong. They are the ones who have the law, the guns, the flashlights, but, no more driving cars though. I always wanted to be in a demolition derby, but, I never thought it would happen this way.

What a waste of people's taxes that was, but, they don't care. So, I took them all, one by one until the last one, throwing their guns as far as I could in the field. My biggest problem was, I didn't have my mask with me for the simple reason that, I didn't expect this to happen so soon with no warning of any kind. When I came to the last one he was so scared, I thought he would do something in his pants. I disarmed him and I asked what was wrong.

"Is your conscience bothering you?"

I dislocated one of his shoulder when he came to grab me. I put him in a car where there were three men, gave them the cop's gun and asked them to drop him in town with the message that the Masked Defender took care of the situation.

"It is very important you don't let him go before four or five in the morning though. Good luck."

Then I went to the first officer who wanted me and I got my papers back from his packet. I just knew it would have been much safer for me to finish him up like they do, but, I just couldn't.

"Remember me and remember well, if I come against you one more time, you might not be as lucky as you are now."
