My career as a hubcap man, I believe started way back when I was only nine years old. I found a 1953 Cadillac hubcap that I hung in the pool room owned by a family friend. It was one of the only fun/get-together places in the village. There was a TV, a juke box and of course a couple of pool tables.
The man who had lost it was really happy to get it back and gave me $10.00 for it. That was $2.00 more than my dad made in a day working 8 hours. I guess that it clicked in then, that there was money to be made in the hubcap business.
One thing I know for sure is that I believed in them when most of the people didn’t. That is also probably why I have the largest collection in the country. But the serious collecting started in 1970 when I got tired of waiting for a job in construction. In Québec, winters are rather long, and most of the time work stop at the end of September and didn’t start until the end of May making the working season very short. So I decided to search the roads even before the snow melted and let me tell you one thing, the roads hold a lot of treasures. My collection is living proof.
